I’m leading a concert as part of The USAF Band’s “First Friday” series at the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum! I decided to focus on jazz duo playing, which is one of my favorite musical formats due to the degree of freedom and spectrum of possibility. Playing duo relies on a combination of instinct, trust, and open-mindedness, and so if both players are attuned to each other, the music can go in any direction! I’ll be presenting four original pieces (one of which is a world premiere), supplemented with works by Ellington, Monk, Hersch and more.
This performance is free and open to the public, no tickets required. It takes place in the Space Race exhibit hall on the ground floor of the museum. Sets take place at 11am, 12pm and 1pm.
